Survival experts in the mountains
In the mountains, the air gets thinner and life gets tougher. Up here, only the strongest plants and animals can survive. Trees are getting fewer and fewer, with leaf trees stopping further down, while conifers like mountain pines, spruces and firs can handle the cold winter and deep snow. Mountain pine trees in particular grow slowly, remain small and withstand the heavy pressure of the snow. We marmots would also like to see more trees, especially in summer, when temperatures above 20 °C quickly become too hot for us. As we do not have sweat pores, we like to lie on cool stones to keep ourselves cool.
