In early 18th century Venice, the highly gifted violinist Cecilia lives in the largest orphanage in Venice, the Ospedale della Pietà. There, particularly talented orphan girls receive a musical education – but only to attract wealthy patrons for the orphanage through the orchestra. Art has opened Cecilia's mind, but not the doors of the orphanage. Her only escape would be marriage. With the arrival of the new violin teacher, Cecilia's orderly world begins to crumble. His name is Antonio Vivaldi.
